Mike Russell Radio Producer
I’m Mike Russell and I’ve worked as a radio producer since 2004 with well known names in the UK radio industry. I’ve not only produced radio shows that I’ve presented myself but I have also worked behind the scenes on some of the UK’s best loved radio shows. Now, in the world of new media, I present and produce regular podcast episodes including the Music Radio Creative podcast. Tweet with any questions about radio production.
Radio Producer Jobs
Most recently, in a full time radio producer job, I produced Manchester legend and radio star Mike Sweeney – formerly of Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio and Capital Gold.
Rock Radio Producer
The challenge for me was to launch an afternoon drive show on Manchester’s new classic rock radio station 106.1 Rock Radio. The radio show was set to be 60% speech and only 40% music, under Ofcom rules, so there was plenty of content to produce on a daily basis. I would work on a set of talk topics for the show, source interesting and famous guests and arrange charity events and appearances for host Mike Sweeney.
Some of the most famous guests that Mike landed one-to-one interviews with for the show include Prime Minister David Cameron, Steve Coogan, Dom Joly, Jim Bowen, Derek Acorah and Theresa Villers MP to name a few.
Mike worked on the Mike Sweeney afternoon drive show for 1 year during which time the listening figures have seen a rapid increase and Mike Sweeney has since gone on to present the flagship breakfast show at Rock Radio (now known as Real Radio XS).
Talk Show Radio Producer
Mike has worked as a talkSPORT radio producer for over 3 years and has worked alongside Charlie Wolf, Mike Mendoza, James Whale, George Galloway, Ian Collins, Adrian Goldberg and Mike Graham in all aspects of talk radio production. You may have heard his name if you listened to talkSPORT between 2004-2007 as “Mikee behind the glass” on The Charlie Wolf Show or sidekick “Mini Mike” on The Mike Mendoza Show.
